Robert and Emma Edmeades nee Warren
Robert Edmeades, born in 1836, was the 6th child of Thomas and Sarah Edmeades. He married Emma Warren in 1860 at St Peter's Stepney and their home was 'The Brewery' on Whitmore Road in Hoxton, Kent.
Robert and Emma had just two children, Robert in 1861 and Emma in 1863. Sadly, Emma snr died after giving birth to her daughter. At this time, Robert jnr was sent to live with his maternal grandparents, Mr and Mrs Warren in Margate where Mr Warren was a ship's chandler. Baby Emma was cared for by her uncle the Reverend Charles Edmeades, who was a London City Missioner. Robert snr married again, to Anna Rumsey nee Waterman, a widow with one daughter Anna. The children Robert and Emma eventually returned to live with their father and his new wife. It appears Robert and Anna may also have had a daughter Sarah, who died age 11 months in 1876, and is buried in the Poole Cemetery. Robert is listed in the 1881 Census listed as a managing brewer, aged 45, living in Market Street, Poole St James, Dorset. Daughter Emma is living at the same residence, aged 17. Her brother Robert had by this time emigrated to New Zealand, having left for Australia on board the 'Chimborazo' in 1877. In later years Robert snr and Anna lived in Poole, in Dorset, and provided a home for Robert's parents Thomas and Sarah who both died in 1882. They are buried in the cemetery at Poole. Anna tragically died of typhoid fever, contracted while on holiday in London. She is also buried in the cemetery at Poole. Husband Robert died in 1906. |
